About us
Established in 1991, piezosystem jena offers piezo micro-positioning, piezo nanopositioning and metrology solutions to the semiconductor, aerospace, microscopy and synchrotron community. We have an extensive knowledge and in-depth technical expertise in the application of piezo technology for nanopositioning tasks, and in the design of piezo flexure stages and development of piezomechanical systems.
The strength of piezosystem jena comes from our commitment to complete customer satisfaction in the markets we serve. The partnerships we form with our clientele in applications such as super resolution microscopy, AFM, process control, semiconductor metrology and nanopositioning for synchrotron radiation are long-lasting and mutually beneficial. Our knowledge in piezo technology comes from our own research, and our daily interactions as consultants.

Products & Services
We offer: Piezo actuators, stages and many other precision positioning components such as optical objective positioners, optical fiber switches, wafer handling stages, tip-tilt stages and many other related OEM components.
MIPOS Optical Objective Positioners
This z-axis actuating system for precise lens objective positioning is made for applications such as single photon microscopy, semiconductor manufacturing, laser scanning microscopy, and confocal microscopy.
TRITOR Stages for X, Y and Z Precise Positioning
TRITOR® nanopositioners are extremely compact but offer motions of up to 400 µm in all three X, Y and Z axes. Parallel motion is achieved without mechanical play due to the system’s rigid design. As an option, integrated position control systems for overcoming the effect of hysteresis are available.
These piezo stages can be easily combined with other mechanical positioning systems, and they are well suited for various applications reaching from optical research to OEM systems.
TRITOR® elements consist of actuators integrated in a housing with internal lever transmission. Since the lever mechanism works in both directions, forces between the housing and top plate need to be avoided, as they could damage the stage.
These multi-axis positioning stages are attached by using two diagonal holes.
Piezo Amplifiers and Controllers
piezosystem jena offers multiple ranges of amplifiers and controllers, from one-channel, multichannels, modular and high power amplifiers.
Tip-Tilting Piezo Stages
Fast Steering Mirrors, or FSMs, from piezosystem jena play critical roles in modern optical inter-satellite communication terminals.
As the workhorse of these terminals, an FSM allows for the stabilization and precise pointing of laser links between satellites. This is vital as a stable and secure connection is absolutely necessary for the efficient and consistent transfer of data. Especially in low earth orbit, atmospheric turbulence along with onboard vibrations can cause misalignment and link breakage. FSMs provide a solution by countering these vibrations through extremely fast and precise motion.
Our FSMs:
Displacements up to ±20 mrad.
Sub-microradian resolutions.
Closed-loop strain gauge feedback for elimination of hysteresis and drift.
Bandwidths up to 6500 Hz.
Fiber Switches - Piezoelectric driven switches
Piezoelectric driven switches are especially designed for fast switching – measured in milliseconds – low loss and high repeatability. Piezo actuators enable the optical switch to couple optical fibers with an accuracy of a few microns. The high accuracy of positioning of the piezo-electric actuators guarantees a light transmission of >80%.
Standard switch configurations range from 1-input to 2-outputs, up to 1-input to 9-outputs. Fiber switches can also be used the other way around, from 2-inputs to 1-output, up to 9-inputs to 1-output. Standard fiber diameters range from 50 to 600 micrometers. A variety of connectors are available.
piezosystem jena fiber switches use fiber surface coupling. The major advantage of this design is that it is not necessary to depend on optical components in the switcher. Fiber switches with optical components, like lenses or prisms, will always result in a wavelength-dependent limitation.
The small size of the fiber switch and the easy control make these fiber optic switches ideally suited for use as components of spectrometers or other metrology devices. Switch systems with many more output channels can be achieved by cascading multiple fiber switches.
