About us
PicoLAS GmbH, founded in 2005 and based in Würselen, Germany, specializes in the development and manufacture of power supplies for laser diodes.
PicoLAS GmbH offers a unique and broad portfolio of drivers, ranging from 200 ps to continuous wave (cw), serving customers in both industry and research. The excellent reliability and attractive cost-effectiveness of all PicoLAS products are well known worldwide. Their compact and modular design allows for easy machine integration. Our short pulse drivers for nanosecond pulses, capable of delivering up to several hundred amperes, are especially popular.
PicoLAS' very compact and efficient drivers for diode lasers have achieved significant market prominence in several areas:
• Base plate-cooled cw drivers for fanless designs
• High-efficiency, digitally controlled cw and QCW drivers
• Short pulse drivers for seeding and rangefinding applications
PicoLAS is Europe's leading provider of high-speed seeding for fiber lasers.
The main markets include:
• Medical (hair removal, skin treatment, etc.)
• Material processing (engraving, marking, cutting, soldering, drilling, etc.)
• Driving ultra-short pulse lasers
• Military & law enforcement (including high safety standards such as SIL 3 and 4, or class E and higher)
The PicoLAS R&D team also develops customized drivers in close cooperation with customers.

Products & Services
PicoLAS develops state-of-the-art compact and efficient drivers for laser diodes, LEDs, and other applications. The fanless and baseplate cooled design is world unique. Drivers for extremely short current pulses (400 A) are available off-the-shelf. PicoLAS also offers one of the worlds fastest analog modulated driver for fiber laser seeding applications – the BFSVRM 03. The OEM current sources cover pulse durations of < 400 ps up to cw. The available current range is between < 0.1 A and up to 400 A. The LDP-CW 90-10 is the smallest 1 kW LD driver available on the market with up to 90 A on a “half brick” size footprint. It is very affordable, compact, efficient, and base plate cooled. PicoLAS offers protective systems (Stackprotector) on most of the drivers. Our R&D team also develops customized drivers in close cooperation with the customers.
LDP-CW 20-50-S50/LDP-CW 90-10-S50/LDP-CW 130-05 - High Power Laser Drivers
PicoLAS offers a huge variety of “kilowatt-class” drivers in the famous half brick size. In cw operation solutions with up to 20 A @ up to 50 V (LDP-CW 2050), 90 or 130 A @ up to 10 V (LDP-CW 9010 or 130-05) are available. Special solutions with a fully isolated output or an additional linear driver stage are also available. Higher currents up to 320 A will be presented soon.
All drivers feature an analogue and a digital control option, making their use easy. Of course all drivers are conductively base plate cooled. You can find all information and videos of how to set up on our web page.
BFS-VDIG 03 - Butterfly Seeder
The new digitally controlled seeder does not require an external anlag arbitrary pulse shape generator. The pulse shape is loaded digitally into the driver and released by a triggering signal. Several different pulse shapes can be preselected. The supply voltage of 5 V makes the use easy. All Type 1 butterfly packages will fit in. Brand new and real enabling factor is the increased stability being as high as 1*10-6.
LDP-VRM 025-09-0 - White light laser driver solution
The LDP-VRM 025-09-0 is the perfect choice for all applications requiring a ready-for-use driver with integrated WLS, LD, or LED. A high-efficiency buck-boost regulator offers an input voltage being lower, equal, or higher than the targeted device. The input voltage range offers the use in many applications like pocket flashlamps with 2S or 3S LiPo battery packs. Due to a µC supervisory, the temperature is controlled and several options like soft start, preset power levels can be programmed in our factory.
LDP-C/CW 80-40 Next Generation - High Power Laser Driver
The LDP-C/CW 80-40 NextGen is a versatile, high-power laser diode driver that offers precise control for various laser diodes. It can handle high load currents ranging from 10 to 80 A and compliance voltages from 0 to 40 V, delivering a maximum output power of 3200 W. The driver ensures stable and consistent laser output with minimal ripple and current overshoot.
One of the key features of the LDP-C/CW 80-40 NextGen is its ability to operate in both pulsed and continuous wave (CW) modes. The driver also offers analog modulation for dynamic control of the output power, allowing for precise adjustments to the laser's performance.
The LDP-C/CW 80-40 NextGen is designed with multiple control interfaces, including LDP-C BOB, PLB-21, and Ethernet, making it adaptable to different system setups. It also prioritizes safety with features like overtemperature shutdown, soft start, and other protection mechanisms, ensuring the longevity of both the laser diode and the driver itself.
LDP-V 50-100 V3.3 - Driver Module for pulsed Lasers
The LDP-V 50-100 is a small and inexpensive source for generating nanosecond pulses. The device is optimized for pulse repetition rates from single shot up to MHz repetition rate with duty cycles up to 59%**. Its typical application is driving pulsed laser diodes. Those can be mounted directly onto the LDP-V, eliminating the need for strip lines. The diode must be electrically isolated from earth (chassis) ground. Compatible laser diode packages: TO-18, TO-5, TO-52, 5.6 mm, 9 mm, and similar. Despite its small size, the LDP-V is designed for ease of use. It eliminates the need for multiple peripheral supply units. A single 15 .. 24 V DC supply and a triggering signal are all which is required for operation. Additionally, you can upgrade the LDP-V with the PLCS-21 controller to enable USB 2.0 communication with a PC or the external operating unit PLB-21.
