The PicoLAS GmbH, headquartered in Würselen Germany, is specialized in developing and manufacturing very compact and efficient drivers for diode lasers which have achieved a couple of market prominences: Base plate cooled cw drivers for fanless designs, high-efficiency digital controlled cw and qcw drivers, short pulse drivers for seeding and range finding applications. PicoLAS is Europe's number one for high-speed seeding of fibre lasers (400 ps up to cw).

Products and services

PicoLAS develops state-of-the-art compact and efficient drivers for laser diodes, LEDs and other applications. The fanless baseplate cooled design is world unique. Drivers for extremely short current pulses ( 450 A) are available of the shelf. For example, the LDP-AV 1N50-450 delivers up to 450 A in 5 ns pulse in a very compact size of 19x21 mm². PicoLAS also offers one of the worlds fastest analog modulated driver for fiber laser seeding applications – the BFS-VRM 03. The OEM current sources cover pulse durations of < 400 ps up to cw. The available current range is between < 0.1 A and up to 400 A. The LDP-CW 90-10 is the smallest 1 kW LD driver available on the market with up to 90 A on a “half brick” size footprint. It is very affordable, compact, efficient and base plate cooled. PicoLAS offers protective systems (Stackprotector) on most of the drivers. Our R&D team also develops customized drivers in close cooperation with the customers.
LDP-AV 1N50-450

The LDP-AV 1N50-450 is a driver especially designed for LIDAR applications and it is capable of driving more than 650 W. It can achieve currents of up to 450 A with a fixed pulse duration of 5 ns. The 19x21 mm² front part of the driver contains the complete driver electronics. The rest of the board only contains connectors for easy access. Customized laser diode pads, pulse duration and more are available on request.

LDP-AV 16N45-40

The LDP-AV 16N45-40 is a nanosecond driver especially designed for multi-channel LIDAR applications. It is a 16-channel high side driver which is capable for driving more than 640 A in total. Each channel can be addressed separately and can drive up to 40 A in 5.5 ns pulse.

The laser diode can be mounted directly on top of the driver. Customized laser diode pads, pulse duration and more are available on request.

LDP-CW 250-40 F

The LDP-CW 250-40 is a very efficient and compact driver for high power laser diodes and is available in two different versions: Standard and fast modulated (F). Both versions deliver a max. output voltage of 40 V with a current of up to 250 A. This 10 kW driver has an exceptional compact design leading to excellent power density of 5 W/cm³ and a high efficiency of up to 94 %. The F version increases the maximum modulation frequency from 1 kHz to 50 kHz (-3 dB) with a pulse rise time of <20 μs.

Multi channel and high power LIDAR drivers from PicoLAS

With the LDP-AV 1N50-200 and LDP-AV 1N50-450 PicoLAS offers two compact and powerful drivers for single channel LIDAR applications. The complete driver electronics fit on a stamp sized board (19x21 mm²) and they can deliver up to 450 A in a 5 ns pulse.

For multi channel LIDAR applications PicoLAS offers the LDP-AV 4N55-90 and the LDP-AV 16N45-40. The LDP-AV 4N55-90 has 4 separate channels which each deliver up to 90 A in 5.5 ns pulse. The LDP-AV 16N45-40 has 16 separate channels with 40 A each at a pulse duration of 40 A. In both cases all channels can be addressed completely separately or combined to one single output with 360 or 640 A.

We also offer customized solutions directly designed for your application. This ranges from small adaption as the pulse duration, LD pad sizes or amount of channels to complete new developments according to your specification. Visit us for more information!

Extremely compact 10 kW Driver for High Power Laser Diodes
The LDP-CW 250-40 is a very efficient and compact driver for high power laser diodes and is available in two different versions: Standard and fast modulated (F). Both versions deliver a max. output voltage of 40 V with a current of up to 250 A. This 10 kW driver has an exceptional compact design leading to excellent power density of 3.9 W/cm³ with a efficiency of up to 97 %.
The standard version features a very low current ripple of >0.8 %, minimal overshoot of >3 % with a maximum modulation frequency of 1 kHz. The F version increases the maximum modulation frequency to 50 kHz with a rise time of <20 µs.
The integrated capacitors minimize the current stress during modulation for the power supply and cables to ensure low maintenance and reduce inductive losses. The LDP-CW 250-40 can be completely controlled by analog signals. Visit us for more information!
