About us

LightTrans group is based in Jena in the state of Thuringia, the historical and present center of optics in Germany. Our products and services shorten or even enable development cycles of optical components and systems. All our activities are based on the Fast Physical Optics design software “VirtualLab Fusion”, which provides ray tracing and physical optics field tracing methods. Our products include optical design software, optical engineering, training and consulting as well as prototyping. Optical engineering solutions by LightTrans help you to minimize R&D costs and development time.

VirtualLab Fusion – Fast Physical Optics modelling and design software.

All the products and services of LightTrans are based on the physical optics design software “VirtualLab Fusion”, which provides ray tracing and physical optics field tracing methods. Light is represented by electromagnetic fields. Diffraction, interference, polarization effects and aberrations are taken into account during the engineering process of optical elements and systems. Applications include the waveoptical design and analysis of laser systems; control of ultrashort pulses; shaping, splitting and diffusing of light by diffractive optical elements; homogenization and shaping of LED and Excimer laser light; design of gratings and optimization of laser resonators.

VirtualLab Fusion offers Channel Setting for Non-Sequential Tracing

In VirtualLab Fusion, non-sequential tracing is enabled by adjusting the channels of each surface. This use case shows the definition of channels by using an example of a waveguide with two surfaces. Channels of each surface are adjusted and the consequences of the settings are shown. Furthermore, on a surface, grating regions can be defined. Setting of the region channels are not necessary to be identical with the surface channels.

VirtualLab Fusion ‘Non-Sequential Extension’ software for fast physical optics simulation

Two-dimensional (2D) exit pupil expansion, as a key technology for near-to-eye display, can be realized by using diffractive gratings. Together with the in- and outcoupling gratings, it makes a complex 2D layout on both sides of the waveguide. As an example, a 2D exit pupil expander, which consist of both idealized and real gratings, is constructed and modeled. Uniformity at the exit plane of the waveguide is shown, and the PSF and MTF at the imaging plane are also evaluated.
